Utrogestan side effects
The most common side effect associated with Utrogestan are changes to your monthly bleeding pattern. Some patients also experience headaches, bloating and mood changes, especially when first starting treatment.
The good news? These side effects are usually temporary and often improve once your body adjusts or if your prescribing doctor tweaks how you're taking the medication.
How and when should you take Utrogestan?
- 1
Before bedtime
Utrogestan is safe to take at any time of the day. However, Utrogestan is usually best taken at night before bed, as progesterone supports sleep and may cause drowsiness. It is important to take HRT in a way that fits into your lifestyle and routine.
- 2
Take it ideally on an empty stomach
It is advised to take it at least 2 hours after your last meal. Taking Utrogestan with food can increase the systemic absorption of progesterone. For some women, this will lead to higher absorption and a higher risk of side effects.
- 3
Alongside water
Swallow the capsules whole with a drink of water.
