Everything you need to know about Evorel Conti patches

Evorel Conti is a form of continuous combined hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It contains both oestrogen and progestogen in a single transdermal patch, designed for women who are postmenopausal, meaning at least 12 months have passed since their last period. As a continuous combined HRT patch, both hormones are delivered every day without a break, helping to keep hormone levels stable and preventing a monthly bleed.

Hormone replacement therapy patches deliver hormones directly through the skin, bypassing the digestive system and the liver's first-pass metabolism. This transdermal route is associated with a lower risk of blood clots compared to oral HRT tablets, and is often preferred for women where this distinction is clinically relevant.

Key information about Evorel Conti Patches

Benefits of Evorel Conti

The oestrogen delivered by Evorel Conti:

  • Relieves vasomotor symptoms of menopause, including hot flushes and night sweats
  • Supports bone health and reduces the risk of osteoporosis, which accelerates in the postmenopausal years
  • Delivers a steady, continuous release of oestrogen, helping to maintain stable hormone levels and avoid the peaks and troughs associated with daily tablets
  • Bypasses the digestive system and liver, making it a gentler option for women who experience stomach issues with oral HRT
  • Carries a lower risk of blood clots compared to oral oestrogen
  • Produces no monthly bleed, which simplifies the treatment regimen for postmenopausal women
  • May support cognitive function, mood stability, and joint comfort as part of broader postmenopausal health

The norethisterone (progestogen) in the patch protects the lining of the womb from the stimulating effect of oestrogen, which is a clinical requirement for all women with a uterus taking oestrogen therapy.

The twice-weekly patch change schedule also removes the daily burden of remembering oral medication, which many women find makes it easier to maintain a consistent treatment routine.

4 tips to help you

How and where to apply Evorel Conti patches

  • 1

    Apply directly to clean skin

The patch should be applied to skin that is clean, completely dry, and free from lotions, oils, or creams. Any residue on the skin can affect how well the patch adheres and how consistently the hormones are absorbed. Replace the patch twice per week

  • 2

Apply to the lower abdomen or buttocks

Place the patch on the lower abdomen or buttocks. It is important to keep the patch below the waist. Never apply it near the breasts

  • 3

Avoid areas of skin irritation or tight clothing

Do not apply the patch to skin that is red, broken, or irritated. Avoid areas where clothing fits tightly, as friction can cause the patch to lift or peel

  • 4

    Rotate application sites

Use a different area of skin with each patch change to reduce the risk of local skin irritation. Keeping a simple record of where you applied the previous patch can help with this
